VANCOUVER, Wash — On "Small Business Saturday" in downtown Vancouver, local shop owners KGW spoke with say they hope the recent pause in construction on Main Street helps boost holiday shopping at their stores.
“The holiday season can either make or break your year,” Wild Fern Boutique owner Deanna Gaines said.
The city paused construction from Thanksgiving until New Year's Day so the area can be fully open for people to explore.
Construction on Main Street from 5th Street to 15th Street started at the beginning of this year, as part of the Main Street Promise.
Gaines said the construction has made the streets bare this year and says while the construction pause is helpful, this year’s sales will track behind years past.
