NEW ORLEANS — Animal Rescue New Orleans, a no-kill shelter in Elmwood, has brought in thousands of dollars and counting this holiday season through its fundraiser “Poorly Drawn Pets.” It is the third year they’ve offered the event and an organizer said because of its growing popularity they’ve decided to extend it.
The fundraiser works like this — donors send a minimum of $20 to ARNO and submit a photo of their pet. Then, the shelter sends the photo to one of the volunteer artists who have signed up for the fundraiser to paint or draw a portrait of the pet. The donor receives a photo of the artwork.
Around 500 volunteers have signed up as artists this year, the shelter said, including many who request to do more than one portrait. They range from professionals to classes of schoolchild
