It took a lot of work in the second half, but Class 6A No. 5-ranked Butler came from 31-18 down at the half to prevail against City League No. 1-ranked Obama Academy with a nail-biting 54-52 win at the Geneva College/Lincoln Park Tournament, not taking the lead until they reached a 50-49 scoreline in the dying moments.

Head coach Matt Clement claimed that nothing special went into his team talk at the half; he just needed to remind his team of what they were capable of.

“There really was no magic speech; it was more just reassurance that we were alright here,” Clement said. “A lot of guys have played a lot of basketball at Butler for us, we just needed to get our feet underneath us, get a couple of stops and a couple of buckets.”
