A baby girl defied all the odds to survive after being born so early her foot was the size of her dad's fingertip and her eyes were sealed shut. Brave tot Jemima James, now aged one, was born weighing just 1lb 4oz at 23 weeks four days gestation and spent four months in Medway Maritime Hospital's NICU.

After being born with no heartbeat, Jemima was intubated and diagnosed with chronic lung disease two weeks later. Doctors discovered from scans a "huge" air-filled cyst – called bullous emphysema – in Jemima's upper right lung meaning she was unable to breathe independently.

Aged two months, Jemima was put on maximum life support and was completely sedated with doctors warning parents Hannah and Craig James, 31, it was "up to her" if she pulled through. Miraculously, a month later, X-Rays
