Part of a city centre has been cordoned off following a serious assault that occurred early this morning. Emergency services were alerted to the incident on Horsefair Street just before 5am. A man in his 20s sustained serious injuries and was transported to hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment. Leicestershire Police confirmed that a group of men fled the scene before officers arrived. No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing. As a result of the incident, a police cordon has been established, restricting access to Halford Street from Horsefair Street. Leicestershire Police advised that all traffic should follow diversions from Horsefair Street using Bowling Green Street. Detective Sergeant Adrian Davies from Leicestershire Police's Complex Investigation Team (CIT) has issued an appeal for information. He stated, “Officers spoke to several people when they arrived at the scene and I’m appealing for anyone who can help but has not yet spoken to us to come forward. I extend that appeal to anyone who has footage of the incident on a mobile phone or dashcam. Anything you’re able to tell us – no matter how insignificant you think it is – could assist our enquiries.” The police are urging anyone with information to contact them as they continue their investigation into the assault.
