Pope Leo XIV is expected to arrive in Beirut on Sunday continuing his first foreign trip to Turkey and Lebanon.

Posters advertising the Holy Father's visit were displayed on highways and streets, in all the places he was going to visit and pass through.

Many people had hoped that the Pope’s visit to Lebanon would bring peace, given that political analysts widely expect Israel to declare war on Lebanon if Hezbollah is not disarmed.

“We hope there will be peace soon in God’s will. We are fed up and tired, we have reached a place where there is no hope” said Mohammad Annan.

Meanwhile Farah Saadeh said “He (Pope Leo) is coming to bless us and for the sake of peace”, Saadeh hoped nothing is going to happen after he leaves Lebanon.

Pope Leo XIV’s visit to Lebanon and his meeting with Lebanese officials will try to boost a long-suffering Christian community as well as Lebanese of all faiths who are still demanding justice over the 2020 Beirut port blast.

Pope Leo XIV is on his first foreign trip to Turkey and later Lebanon, marking an important Christian anniversary and bringing a message of peace to the region at a crucial time for efforts to end the war in Ukraine and ease Mideast tensions.
