Just two seasons into its run, Netflix is canceling “Starting 5,” its behind-the-scenes documentary series following the NBA, according to Sports Business Journal .
The series, which debuted in 2024, followed the season-long journeys of five NBA stars. The first season featured a star-studded lineup that included Lebron James, Jimmy Butler, Jayson Tatum, Anthony Edwards and Domantas Sabonis.
However, the viewership numbers seemingly didn’t live up to expectations. Season 1 drew 4.6 million views during its first period of availability, from July to December 2024, and dropped to just 1 million views in the first half of 2025, according to What’s on Netflix .
Meanwhile, “Quarterback” — Netflix’s same-style docuseries that follows NFL players in-season — drew 12.7M views in its opening
