Very little separated Penn State and Rutgers on Saturday in Piscataway, N.J.

The Scarlet Knights, 0-10 vs. PSU in Big Ten play coming in, had plenty of opportunities but came up short in the Nittany Lions’ 40-36 win.

PSU (6-6) was too good on fourth down; Rutgers (5-7) wasn’t good enough.

The Lions’ offense was successful on all three fourth-down tries and the visitors turned aside the Knights on both of their fourth-down attempts.

Zion Tracy, Penn State’s nickel corner, foiled a Rutgers fake field-goal try in the first quarter. On a fourth and 8 play from the PSU 22, placekicker Jai Patel ran with the ball and was tackled by Tracy for a three-yard loss. 37
