Stepping into the "unspoilt" Rex Cinema in the heart of Elland is like taking a journey back in time, and it's this nostalgic charm that has film enthusiasts smitten.
On a gusty Thursday afternoon, a group of mates from Huddersfield had just enjoyed a screening of Wicked: For Good at the Rex picture house, which set them back only £5.50 each. Diane Swindon, a dedicated Rex patron, described the cinema as having a "nice cosy feel", where customers can savour coffee and ice cream during the "interval" - a notion that might seem foreign to those accustomed to multiplex cinemas.
The Rex stands as one of the oldest purpose-built and structurally untouched cinemas in the country. Constructed in 1912, it now boasts a faithful customer base extending as far as Leeds and Manchest
