Starting Monday, the Alter L/A Emergency Warming Center in Lewiston will operate around the clock.
The emergency shelter, run by the team behind Kaydenz Kitchen, will offer expanded hours at its 70 Horton Street location. The new shelter opened at the beginning of November, offering about 100 spaces from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
"For anyone who has ever worked in emergency warming services, 'You have to leave now' are 5 of the hardest words to say. Beginning Monday, we won’t have to say them!" Kaydenz Kitchen said on social media.
Kaydenz Kitchen said the Alter L/A shelter will be the only 24/7 emergency warming center in Androscoggin County and one of two in Maine.
