The New Orleans Saints had a new kicker on Sunday against the Miami Dolphins in Irishman Charlie Smyth , who made the first first field goal attempt of his NFL career.
Smyth's first career field goal at the NFL level was from 56 yards out, and he drilled the kick with 6:08 to go in the fourth quarter of the Week 13 contest at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami. Smyth took over as the Saints kicker in place of Blake Grupe , who was released earlier in the week.
The 56-yard field goal from Smyth cut the Dolphins lead over the Saints to 19-11, which had plenty of leg as seen in the video below.
Smyth has been on the Saints practice squad since 2024 and was elevated for the Dolphins game instead of Cade York, who was signed to the Saints practice squad during the week.
