A 67-year-old man died from injuries he sustained in an assault in suburban Schaumburg, authorities said Sunday.

Anupam Patel was pronounced dead at approximately 11:06 a.m. on Saturday in the 1100 block of South Salem Drive, where he resided, police said.

An autopsy was performed on Sunday and determined Patel died from blunt trauma and an assault - and his manner of death was ruled a homicide. His death was under investigation by the Schaumburg Police Department, which had yet to respond to NBC Chicago's request for comment as of Sunday afternoon.
