Following the death of a National Guard member in Washington, D.C., President Donald Trump swiftly announced that he would "permanently pause" all migration efforts in the "Third World countries." When asked about these countries, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said that these are the 19 countries listed in a travel ban that Trump reinstated in June, citing national security concerns.

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Director Joseph Edlow said in a post on X that Trump directed him to do "a full-scale, rigorous reexamination of every Green Card for every alien from every country of concern," including Afghanistan, where investigators said the suspect of the National Guard shooting came from.
