FBI agents seized more than $68,000 after the government threatened to take ownership of a $2.75 million Novi mansion amid a federal bank and wire fraud investigation, the latest legal entanglement involving a man linked to former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, public records show.
The seizure is revealed in an FBI document obtained by The Detroit News on Friday, three months after The News reported that prosecutors slapped a lien on a 6,582-square-foot custom estate in a gated community that was owned by James Wilbur Davis and his ex-wife, Darice Janell Davis. The lien indicates the mansion near Beck Road and Nine Mile could be forfeited to the government as proceeds of fraud and money laundering.
