DETROIT -- Field position proved to be key in the Division 1 state championship game on Sunday at Ford Field between Cass Tech and Detroit Catholic Central.
In the Shamrocks’ 42-19 win over Cass Tech, Catholic Central had an average starting field position of the 48 yard line. On the Shamrocks’ six scoring drives, the average starting field position was the Cass Tech 41.
“We had a theme all week that our special teams and run game was going to be the body shots. Our uppercut was going to be making big plays on offense and our defense, brick wall was going to be the head shots,” Catholic Central coach Justin Cessante said. “We talked about that all week and how we’re going to play physical discipline brand of football. And I think we did that in all three phases.”
