January 1, the first day of each new year, is almost upon us. But there is another New Year that many churches celebrate. It is the first day of Advent that falls this year on November 30, 2025. Advent begins one of the happiest seasons for churches because it celebrates the entrance of Jesus Christ into the world. In addition to Christmas, in the Advent season we celebrate the revealing of a new direction for the world. The special words of this season were spoken by Mary, the mother of Jesus, before his birth while she was visiting her relative, Elizabeth, the mother of John the Baptist. The famous words of Mary’s prayer are called “The Magnificat” and should be in the heart of every follower of Jesus.
