A "devastating" fire has left Welsh rugby club Penarth RFC in a "state of shock" after its clubhouse was destroyed early on Monday morning.

Emergency services were called to Penarth Athletic Club on Lavernock Road at approximately 5:00 am, where the clubhouse roof was "well alight".

Multiple fire crews from Penarth, Barry, and Cardiff Central attended the massive blaze, which was brought under control nearly three hours later, around 7:50 am.

The club confirmed that "so many memories have been lost" but thankfully, no one was hurt in the incident.

Penarth RFC, which shares the facility with Penarth Cricket and Hockey, vowed that all three clubs will "come together and... rebuild".
