LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Welcome to the Sparrow House.

There are no doors or windows, but there’s a lot of history and a bright future ahead.

Misty Smith's great-grandmother bought the house on Prentice Street in Louisville’s California neighborhood 85 years ago.

Now, she’s hoping other west Louisville residents will do the same: hold onto their property so future generations can build stability and economic power in the neighborhood.

“I'm happy that we actually got to this point,” Smith said. “We have so many phases, so many thoughts and ideas that we have for the property.”

Neighbors like Ti’Dal Garrett have stepped in to teach kids how to garden.

It’s a simple skill but one Sparrow House hopes will help tackle food deserts and build connections between generations in the neighborhood.
