COLUMBUS, Ohio — A 62-year-old man was killed in a fiery head-on crash in north Columbus Sunday night.
Around 10 p.m., Martin Smith was driving a 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis east on East Cooke Road at Overbrook Drive.
Police said a 2025 Toyota Camry was heading west on East Cooke Road when it crossed the centerline and struck the Grand Marquis head-on. The Camry then caught fire.
According to police, an adult and the front seat passenger of the Camry were able to get out of the vehicle before it became engulfed in flames. Smith was trapped inside his vehicle.
Police said fire crews used “mechanical means” to get to Smith, but he was pronounced dead at 10:13 p.m.
The adult and passenger of the Camry were taken to Riverside Methodist Hospital and their conditions were described as stable
