NORFOLK, Va. — The 2025 Hurricane Season officially ended on Sunday, November 30th.
In total, the Atlantic basin produced 13 named storms, most of which were only tropical storms. Tropical Storm Chanal made landfall in South Carolina in early July. Chantal was the only U.S. landfalling system this season. This is the first season since 2015 that a hurricane has not made landfall in the United States.
There were five hurricanes: Hurricanes Erin, Gabrielle, Humberto, Imelda, and Melissa.
Hurricane Erin passed east of Hampton Roads and coastal North Carolina in August, prompting local tropical storm warnings. While Erin never made landfall, the pure size and strength of the storm produced powerful swells, causing houses to collapse in the Outer Banks.
