The mum of a young Warwickshire woman who was beaten, stabbed and suffocated before being left to die says she has been left “heartbroken”. Gemma Hayter, who had learning difficulties and a physical disability, was tortured by a gang before being left on a railway line in her hometown of Rugby in August 2010.

Chantelle Booth, then 22, her boyfriend Daniel Newstead, then aged 20, and Joe Boyer, then 18, were given life sentences for murder and Duncan Edwards, who was 19 at the time, and Jessica Lynas, who was also 19, were convicted of manslaughter. But now Gemma's mum, Susan Prince, has revealed that she has learned that Boyer is set to be moved to an open jail, which could lead to his return to the streets.
