COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - Many babies born in Colorado face unique struggles because of the altitude and some may even need to go home on oxygen while their tiny lungs adjust. It’s a challenge that especially affects babies born high mountain towns and in Colorado Springs where the elevation is above 6,000 feet.

This has impacted KKTV’s Morning Anchor Erika Ferrando who spent a week in the NICU with her baby girl and then a month at home with her baby on oxygen. The challenge impacts many Colorado Springs parents, also including former KKTV Morning Producer Jose Maldonado whose full-term baby had low oxygen. He spent three days in the NICU and three months at home on oxygen.
