COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - Colorado Springs police have gone on “accident alert” in response to the city’s first measurable snowfall of the season.
Under accident alert, also known as cold reporting, if there are no serious injuries or fatalities, no suspected impairment, and no damage to public property, drivers can simply exchange information and report the crash within 72 hours. Police say if a tow truck is needed but otherwise all of the previous criteria is met, cold reporting is still permitted.
Springs police typically go on accident alert during inclement weather events, when there is an increased likelihood of crashes.
Crashes can be reported online here , or drivers can go to one of the police department’s substations and pick up a traffic accident report form.
