A 42-year-old man is in critical condition after crashing his car into a Long Island building early Monday morning, Dec. 1.
The single-vehicle crash happened around 5:40 a.m in Patchogue, near the intersection of North Ocean Avenue and Main Street, according to Suffolk County Police.
A man in a Honda Accord was speeding southbound on North Ocean Avenue when he barreled through the intersection and slammed into a commercial building at 14 South Ocean Avenue, police said.
Photos from the scene shared by LI Fire Buff showed the vehicle obliterated with its roof sheered off and front end almost unrecognizable. The storefront suffered heavy damage with debris strewn across the sidewalk.
The driver was taken to NYU Langone Hospital–Suffolk in Patchogue, where he was admitted in critical condition, police said. His Honda was impounded for a safety inspection.
