A person has tragically died after being hit by a train on the tracks at a Leicestershire station.

British Transport Police (BTP) officers rushed to Sileby Railway Station at around 10.40am this morning following reports of a casualty on the tracks . Paramedics also responded to the incident, but in a statement, BTP confirmed that a person, who has not been named, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident is not being treated as suspicious, a BTP spokesperson said. The force added a file will be prepared for the coroner. Passengers faced disruption after the incident as all lines between Loughborough and Leicester were closed while emergency services attended to the scene.
