NEW MADRID COUNTY, Mo. (KFVS) - A New Madrid County deputy’s vehicle was hit while it was blocking one lane of Highway 61 due to a downed power line.

According to New Madrid County Sheriff Joey Higgerson, at around 5 a.m. on Monday, December 1, the deputy was blocking one lane of Highway 61 south of Highway 80.

He said an elderly driver going northbound on Highway 61 hit the patrol vehicle, knocking it into the ditch.

The deputy was not hurt and the driver was transported from the scene with minor injuries.

The sheriff said Highway 61 was closed for about 1 hour.

Matthews police and fire departments helped at the scene.
