BATTLE GROUND — Jackota Salmi, a Battle Ground high school senior, is surviving the typical high school whirlwind — planning for college, powering through homework and, in his spare time, playing video games and thrifting at Goodwill.
All the while, a bigger concern weighs on his mind: finding a living kidney donor before he graduates in June.
“Normally, I don’t like my private business being put out into the public, but I feel like this time I kind of need it,” Salmi said.
Salmi was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease when he was 10. For the most part, he lives his day-to-day life with manageable symptoms. He knew one day he’d need a kidney transplant, but he didn’t think it would be at 19.
In October, Salmi learned his estimated glomerular filtration rate had dropped significantly
