Investigators identified the man involved in a Thanksgiving night shooting in Upstate New York that injured a woman before the suspect killed himself.
In an update Monday, Dec. 1, Saratoga County Sheriff’s officials said Donald Keller, 63, of Galway, was the suspected gunman in the Thursday, Nov. 27, shooting on Consaul Road in Galway.
Keller was discovered dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound after an hours-long law enforcement response that involved Special Operations teams and drone units from multiple agencies, as Daily Voice reported.
The shooting was reported around 7:05 p.m. on Thanksgiving night, when a 54-year-old woman fled to a nearby home for help after being shot, police said.
Deputies secured the scene so EMS crews could reach her, and she was later airlifted to Albany Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
Initial reports about Keller’s whereabouts conflicted, with some callers indicating he could be barricaded inside the residence and others suggesting he had run into the woods. Special Operations teams from the sheriff’s office and New York State Police responded and ultimately found Keller deceased on the property.
Detectives have not released any information about a possible motive, what preceded the shooting, or additional details about the victim.
Galway Fire, Galway EMS, Saratoga Springs Fire, and Life Net assisted at the scene. Police departments in Mechanicville, Waterford, and Ballston Spa handled active calls during the response.
Additional details about Keller and the victim were not immediately available. Friends and family are invited to share a statement or photos by emailing mmashburn@dailyvoice.com.
