A security guard offered a student a lift home after a night out but instead whisked her away to a secluded location and raped her in the back of his van. John Callaway loitered in the city centre in his vehicle before preying upon his victim when she became separated from her friends.

She was left "wishing that her life had ended" during the harrowing attack, which she was subjected to while she was barely conscious. A judge today labelled the dad "a very dangerous man, particularly to young, lone women".
