A World War II monument in Meriden was damaged Sunday when a pickup truck crashed into it, according to police.

It happened around 8:40 p.m. by the median barrier on Memorial Boulevard where it separates Broad Street just south of East Main Street.

The 29-year-old driver of the pickup lost control and went up over the curb of the median, spun around and the truck ended up on its side, according to police.

The truck collided with the World War II roll of honor monument, toppling it and that knocked down another free-standing war monument, police said.

The driver was charged with traveling too fast for conditions.

A similar incident occurred in March 2024 when a truck crashed into the same median, damaging the city
