MERIDEN, Conn. (WFSB) - Another vehicle has crashed into a war monument on Broad Street in Meriden, this time damaging a World War II memorial in a Sunday night rollover.

Mauricio Chavez-Barros, 29, was driving his 2005 Chevrolet Silverado south on Broad Street around 8:40 p.m. when he lost control and veered left, the City of Meriden said.

His truck hit the median curb, went airborne, spun around and flipped over. When it came to rest on its side, the Silverado knocked over the World War II roll of honor monument and damaged another war memorial.

Chavez-Barros walked away without injuries, but received two tickets. Police said he was driving too fast for conditions and shouldn’t have been driving alone since he only has a learner’s permit.
