BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - John Francis was born without part of his right arm and hand. As he grew older, everyday tasks like getting dressed, going to school and participating in karate became more difficult.
“I wasn’t always particularly accepted by people when I was younger,” John said.
His mother Monica Francis said other children had trouble accepting John’s difference.
“They’d be reluctant to approach him, and you know kids, if they’re not used to it, they can be difficult so he had a really hard time as a child,” Monica said.
John researched different prosthetics and found the Open Bionics Hero Pro. The device costs $26,000 and is not covered by insurance.
