SHREVEPORT, La. - The Shreveport Fire Department was called to a house fire Sunday afternoon.
At around 12:40 p.m. on the 100 block of East Topeka Street, firefighters were met with flames spewing from a home.
Firefighters were on scene within three minutes and contained the fire within 15 minutes.
In an act of bravery, one resident of the home played a role in ensuring the safety of his family.
He alerted and assisted all three family members inside the home, including a disabled individual, out of the burning building before firefighters arrived.
He was treated for minor burns and smoke inhalation.
According to the homeowners, all pets escaped the fire as well.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
