UPDATE: The man who died after falling through ice on a private pond has been identified. The Elkhart County Coroner’s Office says Phillip Hoover, 69, of Syracuse died on Monday as a result of accidental drowning in the 70000 block of County Road 29. The investigation concluded that Hoover fell into the pond as he attempted to rescue his dog that had fallen through the ice. First responders were able to rescue the dog, which had no apparent signs of injury.
