Dallas Mavericks forward Cooper Flagg and Charlotte Hornets guard Kon Knueppel have been named the NBA Western and Eastern Conference Rookies of the Month for October and November, the league announced on Tuesday.
Flagg averaged 16.7 points, 6.6 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.4 steals on 46.2% shooting from the field in 20 appearances. He is the 13th Mavericks player to win after ranking fourth in clutch scoring (48 points), leading all players in field-goal percentage in those situations (56%).
The No. 1 pick on Saturday became the youngest player in history to score at least 35 points in a game and joined LeBron James as the only two to do so before turning 19 (18 years, 343 days). He is one of five rookies to score at least 30 points in a game this season.
Knueppel is the 10th player in franchise history to win the award, averaging 18.4 points, 5.7 rebounds and three assists on 41.3% shooting from 3-point range in 20 games. He leads the rookie class in scoring and is the only first-year player with multiple 30-point games this season.
The fourth pick was sixth in the league in 3-pointers during October and November (69), the most by any player through the first 20 games of a career. He is on pace to shatter the rookie record, set by Keegan Murray with the Sacramento Kings during the 2022-23 season (206).
Memphis Grizzlies forward Cedric Coward and New Orleans Pelicans rookies Jeremiah Fears and Derik Queen were also nominated for the award in the West. Philadelphia 76ers guard VJ Edgecombe and Hornets center Ryan Kalkbrenner were nominated in the East.
