Serena Williams insists she is not staging a tennis comeback in 2026.

The 44-year-old has not played a competitive tennis match since the 2022 U.S Open - where she successfully came through the opening two rounds before crashing out to Ajla Tomljanovic.

According to Bounces, Williams has applied for reinstatement to professional tennis via its anti-doping programme.

It sparked a frenzy online - as this was considered a statement of intent to resume her storied career on the court.

However, the 23-time grand slam winner took to social media and said: "Omg y'all I’m NOT coming back. This wildfire is crazy."

One day after her final defeat, the American registered her official retirement with the International Tennis Integrity Agency.
