LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A Louisville Metro Councilmember wants to amend the city’s mask ordinance and ban law enforcement from concealing their identities while doing police work. The change would cover local, state and federal officers.
Monday night, a committee voted 5-4 to pass JP Lyninger’s proposal . The council as a whole must take it up now.
“In general, in the city of Louisville, you can’t wear a mask to hide your identity. What this ordinance does is amend that to make it clear that there is no exception for law enforcement at any level,” Lyninger said. “And that concealing your identity is not one of the permitted safety concerns.”
Lyninger told Spectrum News on Tuesday that constituents from both sides of the aisle requested this change.
