BYU Cougars football head coach Kalani Sitake celebrates with the team after winning 41-27 over Iowa State at Jack Trice Stadium on Oct. 25, 2025, in Ames, Iowa.

Kalani Sitake isn't going anywhere.

According to On3's Pete Nakos, Sitake is staying with the BYU Cougars despite emerging as a key target in Penn State's search for a head coach. Nakoes added that BYU is expected to pay Sitake $9-9.5 million annually and will commit $10-15 million of NIL money to building thier roster, on top of the revenue sharing.

Sitake has extensive ties to BYU and the Utah area. He graduated from there in 2000 and has been their head coach since 2016. He is 83-44 as their head coach and has them set to play Texas Tech in the Big 12 championship on Saturday. If they can win the game, they will be in the College Football Playoff in just their third season as a member of the Big 12.

While they struggled in 2023, they have gone 22-3 since they joined the conference and have emerged as one of the top programs in the league. They have made a bowl game in eight of his 10 seasons as head coach and have won 10 or more games four times.

Penn State has struggled to find a head coach after firing James Franklin on Oct. 12. They have been connected with several notable coaches who have elected to sign extensions at their current school or head elsewhere, including Nebraska's Matt Rhule, JMU's Bob Chesney (now at UCLA), and now Sitake.
