(CNN)– If you’re looking for a seasonal job, it may be harder to come by this year.

A recent survey by the National Retail Federation found stores are expected to hire fewer workers this holiday season, up to 40% less.

That’s not just bad news for employees seeking extra cash, it also means holiday shoppers won’t have as much help in stores.

Retailers say economic uncertainty is a reason for the hiring crunch.

Retail experts say overall staffing levels have also changed this year.

Less full-time employees are quitting their jobs, which means there’s less need for seasonal workers.
