It's not a love story or a ghost story but something more sinister and seductive.
A24 released the trailer for its eerie musical drama starring actors Anne Hathaway ("The Devil Wears Prada" and "The Idea of You") and Michaela Coel ("I May Destroy You" and "Chewing Gum") titled "Mother Mary."
In it, Hathaway plays a fictional pop star named Mother Mary who reconnects with her estranged best friend and former costume designer, Sam Anselm (Coel). Despite clearly unresolved turmoil, the singer asks her former companion to craft the perfect look for her comeback performance. However, in true A24 fashion, the trailer seems to imply more is at stake, alluding to satanic or supernatural elements.
"We have a connection and I can't explain it," Hathaway's character says in the trailer.
David Lowery ("The Green Knight") serves as the director, while the ensemble cast includes stars Hunter Schafer and Alba Baptista. "Mother Mary" will feature music from Charli XCX.
Releasing this spring, the project is among the four 2026 movies Hathaway stars in, along with "The Devil Wears Prada 2" (May 1), "The Odyssey" (July 17) and "Verity" (Oct. 2).
