FORT WORTH, Texas — After just two and a half months on the job, Fort Worth Police Chief Eddie Garcia says he wants a stronger way for his department to monitor itself through a new Constitutional Policing Unit (CPU) he has proposed to city leaders.
“This is a time to do it, not wait a year," Garcia said.
He outlined the plan to the city council’s public safety committee and explained that the unit would focus on strengthening trust and accountability within the department.
The Constitutional Policing Unit will include a civilian CPU Director who will lead strategy, reviews, and reporting, with a targeted hire date of January 2026.
