AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Local charitable organizations are reporting increased demand for services as Giving Tuesday encourages community members to support causes in need.

United Way CSRA will distribute gifts to 1,700 children as part of their holiday assistance program through the Empty Stocking Fund. The organization says 48% of the community is struggling financially.

“It’s the needs and the wants. And at the holidays, that’s a hard balance,” said Abby Muehlfeld, Golden Harvest Vice President of Marketing.

Golden Harvest, United Way and The Salvation Army are all seeing upward trends in people seeking assistance. The need has increased since before recent government shutdowns and remains elevated.
