A volunteer firefighter in Maryland has been removed from duty after police charged him with multiple counts of possessing child porn, officials said.
Evan Morison, 18, of Kensington, was charged with 10 counts of possession of child pornography after a months-long investigation by the Montgomery County Police Special Victims Investigations Division, according to the fire officials.
Morison was a volunteer firefighter/EMT with the Wheaton Volunteer Rescue Squad and the Bethesda Fire Department, officials said.
He has volunteered since 2023.
MCFRS said that once they were notified of the investigation and the charges, Morison was immediately removed from all volunteer activities.
The investigation was launched in February, when the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) received a tip regarding a social media account suspected of being used to possess child pornography.
That led them to Morrison.
He has not been operationally active since. The agency said he no longer has access to any MCFRS facilities, equipment, systems, or records due to the serious nature of the charges.
“The conduct alleged in this case is deeply concerning and is not reflective of the values or expectations of Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service or our volunteer organizations,” County Fire Chief Corey Smedley said.
“Our priority remains the safety, trust, and well-being of the communities we serve.”
MCFRS said it is fully cooperating with the investigation along with the Wheaton Volunteer Rescue Squad and the Bethesda Fire Department.
Morison was initially held without bond in Anne Arundel County, officials said. A bail and bond review was scheduled in Montgomery County on Wednesday, Dec. 3.
