This winter, Cairo-Durham will be the only school in the Patroon Conference to not field a varsity girls’ basketball team.
The school decided in the second week of November to compete in JV but not at the varsity level due to program youth and low overall numbers. The Mustangs fielded just 13 high school-age players ahead of this winter — seven freshmen and six sophomores. Athletic director Greg Hagan thinks taking a break from varsity is the most beneficial option for the program’s athletes this season.
