Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey slammed the Trump administration on Tuesday for its plan to withhold SNAP food aid from recipients in most Democratic-controlled states starting next week unless those states provide information about those receiving the assistance.
"This is truly appalling and cruel,” the Democratic governor said in a statement. “The Trump administration is once again playing politics with the ability of working parents with children, seniors and people with disabilities to get food.”
More than 1 million people across the Bay State rely on the program, formerly known as “food stamps,” to put food on the table.
