Turns out, the College Football Playoff selection committee really, really liked Alabama’s Saturday win over Auburn. The Crimson Tide moved up a spot in Tuesday’s rankings, jumping Notre Dame.

During an interview with ESPN after the rankings were revealed, selection committee chair Hunter Yurachek mentioned the road Iron Bowl win as a major reason for the change. However, the narrow victory against an Auburn team that was not bowl eligible did not seem like the kind of performance that would regularly be rewarded by the committee.

During a teleconference with reporters later on Tuesday, Yurachek was asked to explain why the win did so much to change the Tide’s resume.
