ELK GROVE, Calif. —

The neighbor group chat started up in the close-knit neighborhood on Ferrell Way Tuesday morning, where another neighbor, Marvin Morales, is accused of fatally stabbing his 11-year-old son .

The former Sacramento County Sheriff's deputy then led officers on a short pursuit, where he was killed in an officer-involved shooting on Interstate 5 near Twin Cities Dr.

"When I come back from dropping off my girls, we heard all the sirens, and then the neighbors started talking about what's going on, and how they heard the little girl screaming outside," said neighbor Chris Gallegos.

Gallegos said they started watching the news and saw it all happening in real time.
