EAST GRAND FORKS — In handling Blake Schultz of East Grand Forks, the Grand Forks KnightRiders were able to limit defensive mistakes. It was a big responsibility for a younger group, and they were up to the task, securing a 3-1 win over the Green Wave Tuesday night at the Civic Center.
Senior goalie Kylie Schmaltz stopped 27 of 28 shots and was perfect during a late Senior High flurry of offense while her side clung to a one-goal lead.
“We always have to be aware of where 8 (Schultz) is on the ice," KnightRiders head coach Kelly Kilgore said. "We knew she was going to have the puck on her stick a lot, and we talked to the girls about taking her time and space away."
Schultz ended up off the scoresheet despite hitting a couple of posts in the final minutes of the third period.
