COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Columbus City Schools Board of Education voted Tuesday night to cut more than $50.4 million from the district's budget, including closing four schools and eliminating numerous staff positions, as Ohio public schools face $2 billion in state funding cuts over the next two years.
After approximately three hours of deliberation, board members approved cuts totaling more than $15 million in administrator and non-personnel positions. The board also voted to eliminate transportation for students in grades K-8 who attend schools other than their neighboring schools or 100% lottery schools, totaling more than $8.7 million.
