HURRICANE — A 24-point second quarter lifted Nitro's girls basketball team past Hurricane 66-56 on Tuesday night in the first game of the season for both teams.
Nitro was one point shy of having five players with double-digit scoring efforts. Karsen Jones finished with 15 points on 66% shooting, while Bri Gibson and Mika Adams totaled 13 apiece. Brooklyn Cawley added 12 points, and Bailey Elkins added nine.
“I thought we played great team basketball,” Wildcats coach Pat Jones said. “We were one girl shy of the starting five being in double figures. We worked the ball around well. It felt like, at times, that we had people trying to score and stack points, but we played great defense.”
